Nursing Students’ Knowledge and Implementation of Nursing Ethics in Hospitals
Main Article Content
Abstract
The nursing code of ethics serves as a guideline governing the professional attitudes and behavior of nurses in providing safe, high-quality, and patient-centered nursing care. Knowledge of the code of ethics is one of the factors influencing nursing students’ ability to apply ethical principles during clinical practice (DPP PPNI, 2021). Furthermore, knowledge is a predisposing factor that can influence the formation of an individual’s behavior (Notoatmodjo, 2018). This study aims to determine the relationship between nursing students’ knowledge and the implementation of the nursing code of ethics at Dustira Hospital in Bandung. This study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of nursing students undergoing clinical practice at Dustira Hospital in Bandung. The sample was selected using either total sampling or purposive sampling, depending on the study criteria. Data were collected using a questionnaire that had been validated for both validity and reliability, then analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with a significance level of p < 0.05 (Sugiyono, 2022). The results of the study indicate that the majority of students have a good level of knowledge regarding the nursing code of ethics and are able to adhere to the code of ethics effectively during clinical practice. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant association between nursing students’ knowledge and their adherence to the code.
